I have never had any luck with pumpkins. So I planted my pumpkins and winter squash in the green house. Oh my, they are huge! I had put beans in there as well, expecting some close harmony. And then, squirrels buried sunflower seed from the bird feeders in the beds as well.

So, instead of corn, squash and beans I have Sunflowers, squash, and beans :)

Next year (the last 2 years, but this year I will get the prep work done!) I want to do a 3 sisters garden with corn outside. Maybe I need a removable cold frame to get things going though. These pumpkins and squash are the best I have ever gotten. Is it the heat? The better soil? I guess I will find out next year.

The ongoing experimentation in gardening is one of those Jeffersonian things that enriches my life. Inspired by reading Becoming Jefferson's People, by Clay Jenkinson
